Dark humor, mystery, a murder case and lots of drops of classic detectives Agatha-Christie-style is what is to find in Knives Out (2019), the upcoming movie from writer, producer and director Rian Johnson, one of the most acclaimed names in Hollywood nowadays. The movie, which is described as a modern take on the whodunit murder mystery, follows a family gathering gone horribly awry after the family patriarch’s death leads a master detective to investigate.
In the movie, wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thombrey invites his torn up family to his mansion on his 85th birthday in a hope to reunite them all. During the birthday party, Harlan is found dead by the family. Detective Benoit Blanc arrives to investigate the case and everyone in the family becomes a suspect.
Although being mainly known for being the director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), Rian Johnson already made himself fame of interesting filmmaker with his debut feature film Brick (2005). It was followed by adventures movie The Brothers Bloom (2008) and Looper (2012), one of the most interesting science-fiction titles of the decade. To date, besides directing, he has always been responsible for the screenplays of his movies, although with Knives Out (2019) this is the first time he also assumes the role of a producer.
Knives Out (2019) has a cast filled with international stars from different generations that include names like Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Katherine Langford, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, LaKeith Stanfield, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, Christopher Plummer, Don Johnson, Frank Oz, Shyrley Rodriguez and Edi Patterson.
Filming took place in Boston, Massachusetts from October 30, 2018, until December 20, 2018. Lionsgate acquired the film during the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and set it for a November 27, 2019 release. Recently the first trailer of the movie was out and you can watch it here:
