Polar is a 2012 webcomic and series of graphic novels written and illustrated by Victor Santos. Featuring international hitman Kaiser Black, the webcomic is inspired by a variety of action and noir fiction. Polar is characterized by its highly stylized design and complete lack of dialogue on its online version. Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund has been announced to be the director that will adapt the comic for the big screen. The script is been written by Jayson Rothwell, writer of movies like Malice in Wonderland (2009) or Silent Night (2012).
In this movie adaptation, a master assassin comes out of retirement to contend with a group of young hit men. This international hitman is Kaiser Black and will be played on the screen by Mads Mikkelsen. Since Dark Horse Comics announced that Polar: Came From the Cold would be adapted into a live-action film, lots of speculations have been flowing. But with the additions of Jonas Åkerlund and Mads Mikkelsen to the project, the future film is starting to get very interesting dimensions. The Polar adaptation will be produced as a collaboration between Dark Horse Comics’ entertainment division and Constantin Film. Producers are Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer, Bolt Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt, Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, and Keith Goldberg. Martin Moszkowicz is executive producing.
As it was reported in Variety online site, Mikkelsen will play the world’s top assassin Duncan Vizla, A.K.A the Black Kaiser who is retiring when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he soon finds himself being hunted by an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced. Having no choice but to return to the shadowy life he thought he’d left behind, he must use his arsenal of deadly skills to outsmart his enemies and protect an innocent woman.
