Yes, this is a plot we have seen many times before in American movies, but this time it is the Thais who are going through the cliches of the cabin in the woods horror-slasher and pass them through the filter of their silly humor. What a mix, we’re all in!
Night of the Killer Bears (2022) centers on 5 teenage friends living in the city of Bangkok who after not seeing each other for a long time go on a vacation together, staying at a quiet resort isolated from the city. Things take a dark turn when it’s revealed each of them has hidden secrets and unbeknownst to the group, there is someone observing them. When one of them ends up brutally murdered, paranoia and distrust surround the group, motivating each remaining member to accuse each other of being the murderer or considering the possibility that the real murderer is the unseen presence observing them and that they all are in danger.
Kanphong Banjongphinij debuts as the director of a feature film with Night of the Killer Bears (2022). The main cast of the film is formed by Sananthachat Thanapatpisal, Patchata Jan-Ngern, Khemanit Jamikorn, Tao Sattaphong Phiangphor, Panisara Rikulsurakan, Akalavut Mankalasut, Chanagun Arpornsutinan, and Teerapong Liaorakwong.
The movie was produced by Thongkham Film Co, Ltd, with 4Digital Media owning international distribution rights.
After its theatrical release in Thailand on Night of the Killer Bears (2022) on September 1, 2022, the movie has had an American and Canadian release on DVD and digital on April 18, 2023, and in the UK on April 24, 2023. Watch its official trailer here.
