Brad Pitt crosses the solar system in the new trailer of "Ad Astra"

Announced back in early 2016, and being called by the filmmakers as “the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie“, Ad Astra (2019) is an upcoming American science fiction adventure about an astronaut who crosses our solar system in order to find his father, a former astronaut.

The movie has been co-written and directed by James Gray, responsible for interesting thrillers like Little Odessa (1994), The Yards (2000) or We Own the Night (2007). He first announced he was working on the movie on May 12, 2016, during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Principal photography on the film began in mid-August 2017 in Santa Clarita, California.

Ad Astra (2019)’s main character is astronaut Roy McBride, incarnated by Brad Pitt, who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos. Besides Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones playing the character’s lost father, Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland, Ruth Negga, Jamie Kennedy, Ravi Kapoor, John Ortiz, Greg Bryk, Kimberly Elise, Loren Dean, John Finn, LisaGay Hamilton, Alyson Reed and Anne McDaniels also star.

Ad Astra (2019) is produced by 20th Century Fox, Regency Enterprises and Plan B Entertainment, and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios. It is set to come out in theaters in September.
