Filmed in Berlin, a city where director Duncan Jones spend long time in his childhood, Mute (2017) is a futuristic thriller that will come out at the end of 2017. Not much we know about this new work from the director of Moon (2009), but for sure it’s one of the titles that is generating more expectation this year.

Starred by Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, Sam Rockwell and Justin Theroux among others, the film tells the story of a mute bartender that decides to take justice by his own hand and face a group of city gangsters to find out what happened to his missing partner.

Although we don’t have much more information than the short plot description and the names of the cast, this past week the got releaed a small group of images of this title that online TV Netflix has scheduled to release at the end of the year. In then we can already witness of the aesthetics the movie is following. With a strong visual ressemblance to Blade Runner (1982) and shiny neon lights, the group of dark characters have the perfect environment to carry on with this personal story. Because as Duncan Jones himself said to an interview to Netflix, “Mute is an encapsulation of everything I am fascinated by; noir, science fiction, and unique people in trouble because of who and what they are”.

Netflix producer Stuart Fenegan added: “Duncan handed me a version of Mute at our very first meeting together 13 years ago and I have wanted to bring it to life ever since. We just had to make Moon (2009), Source Code (2011) and Warcraft (2016) in between, and in that time Netflix has become the place for original films. The perfect home for Mute.”
