German fantasy and science-fiction movie "Freaks" will be on Netflix in September

Freaks (2020) is a German superhero action-comedy film. Fully entitled Freaks – Du bist eine von uns (translated as Freaks – You’re One of Us), the movie centers a meek fry cook who, tipped by a mysterious tramp, discovers she has superpowers and uncovers an unsavory, vast conspiracy.

The movie is starred by Cornelia Gröschel, Finnlay Berger, Thelma Buabeng, Gisa Flake, Ralph Herforth, Nina Kunzendorf, Tim Oliver Schultz, and Wotan Wilke Möhring.

What if for your entire life you had superpowers you weren’t aware of? Wendy (Cornelia Gröschel), a young working-class mom, realizes that years of medication have suppressed her latent supernatural powers. She meets a stranger, Marek (Wotan Wilke Möhring), with the same background, and finds out that her co-worker, Elmar (Tim Oliver Schultz), is also similarly gifted. Question is: what will she do with her new powers?

The movie is the most recent work for filmmaker Felix Binder, who has a wide experience on TV productions, including the awarded series Lerchenberg (2013–2015), and debuted as responsible for a feature film with the drama Club der roten Bänder – Wie alles begann (2019) (entitled internationally as The Red Band Society: The Beginning).

On September 2, 2020, Freaks (2020) will be released internationally on Netflix. Here you can watch the trailer for the movie.
