Netflix and Zack Snyder are already working on the sequel for "Army of the Dead"

Disappointing for some and surprisingly exciting for others, it is true that Army of the Dead (2021) [read our review here] has been one of the most notorious Netflix Original releases of the current year, as well as a good wash for the impaired image of his director Zack Snyder after his tedious DC adventures, Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017).

And this is not the first production in the Army of the Dead Universe that Netflix is developing. This year is expected to come out the prequel film Army of Thieves (2021), directed by Matthias Schweighöfer and set before the events in Zack Snyder’s film, which focuses on German safecracker Ludwig Dieter leading a group of aspiring thieves on a top-secret heist during the early stages of the zombie apocalypse. And, also, the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas (2021–) TV series, created by Jay Oliva, centering on the film characters’ rescue crew on their efforts to protect all they love during the first phases of the mysterious zombie outbreak in Vegas, something that in the original movie is only served as introductory sequences.

It was right after the release of the movie that Netflix and Zack Snyder made public that they were thinking of a sequel, but now we have the confirmation via The Hollywood Reporter that the deal for the sequel is signed. “The Stone Quarry Productions, a banner run by filmmaker Zack Snyder, producing partner Deborah Snyder and executive Wesley Coller, has signed a first-look film deal with Netflix”, reads on THR. “My goal and hope are to bring as much quality content as I can and do it on a giant scale”, Zack Snyder tells. “Big projects and big movies”.

Army of the Dead (2021) was released on the popular streaming platform on May 21, 2021. The main plot for the movie is set a few years after the zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Nora Arnezeder formed the main cast.
