In the original Night of the Comet (1984), a comet is on the way to buzz our planet Earth for the first time in 65 million years. While everyone seems to be celebrating its imminent arrival, two sisters, high school seniors, care more about fashion trends than celestial phenomena. Until the next day they wake up in blood red skies and everybody in the valley seems to be gone, reduced to a pile of red dust. Soon they discover that the remaining ones are not as they used to be, and they turned into some kind of zombies with an urge to feed off alive flesh.
Almost 40 years after the release of this little gem of science fiction, the producers have decided to greenlight a remake of the classic written and directed by Thom Eberhardt. And the chosen one to be in charge of the project is Roxanne Benjamin, producer of V/H/S (2012), V/H/S/2 (2013) and V/H/S Viral (2014), and writer and director of segments in the horror anthologies XX (2017) and Southbound (2015).
The production of the Night of the Comet (1984) is planned to start next year when the filmmaker has completed her duties with thriller Body at Brighton Rock, which she has written and is directing. It is not known yet if Roxanne Benjamin will also produce and be the author of the screenplay, or if her duties will remain only directional. The cast of the remake is also yet to be announced.
