As actress and horror icon Barbara Crampton mentioned on her Twitter page, “we are in a reboot renaissance”. Most of the time because the studios want easy money and to fill up the theaters with reboots and sequels of well known popular characters is always a winning hand, but some other times a bunch of filmmakers think there is more to say in the stories that have been entertaining the audiences for decades. A flaw or a refreshing new take on the classic, that is yet to see, but the truth is Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) is one of the most anticipated and long-awaited titles of the year.

In the movie, after nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town. This acts as the spiritual sequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise taking place 47 years later. Ruth is a 25-year old San Francisco moneymaker who drags her younger teenage sister with her to Texas on a business trip, out of fear of leaving her alone in the city. The younger sister Lila is an amateur photographer who is wheelchair-bound and it’s not long until they’re fighting for their lives against a 60-year-old Leatherface.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) is based on a story written by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, who are responsible for hit horror thrillers Don’t Breathe (2016) and Don’t Breathe 2 (2021). They are also producers of the film. The debutant Chris Thomas Devlin has been the writer of the screenplay. This is the second movie by director David Blue Garcia after his awards-winner thriller Tejano (2018).

The main cast of the movie is formed by Nell Hudson, Elsie Fisher, John Larroquette, Alice Krige, Moe Dunford, Sarah Yarkin, William Hope, Jacob Latimore, and Mark Burnham as Leatherface. The late Marilyn Burns was planned to reprise her role of Sally, a part that is played by Olwen Fouéré.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) is Rated R for strong bloody horror violence and gore, and language. Netflix will release the film on February 18, 2022. Watch here its official trailer.
