Well, seems that the killer clown Pennywise is one of the horror characters of the moment. Not only its recent remake It (2017) has become one of the biggest grossing movies of all times (collecting over $700 million worldwide) but its director Andy Muschietti is already working on its sequel with Bill Skarsgård reprising as the evil killer clown and the cast addition of Jessica Chastain. And if that wasn’t enough this summer we’ll witness the arrival of the documentary Pennywise: The Story of ‘IT’ (2018), with plenty of interviews, photos and footage from the filming of the original Stephen King’s book adaptation It (1990).
In the original film, or mini-series consisting of 2 episodes, an evil predatory shapeshifter has the ability to transform itself into its prey’s worst fears, allowing it to exploit the phobias of its victims. It mostly takes the human form of a sadistic, wisecracking clown called Pennywise. The protagonists are The Lucky Seven, or The Losers Club, a group of outcast kids who discover Pennywise and vow to destroy him by any means necessary. The series takes place over two different time periods, the first when the Losers first confront Pennywise as children in 1960, and the second when they return as adults in 1990 to defeat him a second time after he resurfaces.
The documentary Pennywise: The Story of ‘IT’ (2018) has been written by John Campopiano and Gary Smart, and directed by Chris Griffiths for Cult Film Screenings. It counts with interviews with the director of the original mini-series Tommy Lee Wallace, and actors Seth Green, Emily Perkins, Richard Thomas, Tim Reid, Dennis Christopher, Ben Heller, Brandon Crane, Michael Cole and the amazing performer of the iconic killer clown Tim Curry.
If you want to be a part of this documentary you can check out the official internet site of Cult Film Screenings (http://www.cultscreenings.co.uk/pennywise-the-story-of-it). They are still accepting perks until the end of May 2018, so any audience member can become an official producer of the film.
