The ugly cousins of the Gremlins, the Critters, those furry aliens with an insatiable appetite, are back this year. If earlier in March we saw the release of the series Critters: A New Binge (2019– ), now it’s the time for the TV movie Critters Attack! (2019).

This new movie in the Critters saga will follow the main ingredients that make these creatures so popular in the movies back in the 1980s. A base of science-fiction, the classic formula of horror and good doses of humor to make the whole thing tastier. This time it even counts with the special surprise of the appearance of the original Critters (1986) star Dee Wallace back to the saga, although in this new movie she is taking over a different role, the mysterious Aunt Dee.

Besides Dee Wallace, Tashiana Washington, Jaeden Noel, Jack Fulton, Ava Preston, Leon Clingman and Vash Singh complete the main cast. The movie follows 20-year-old Drea, who reluctantly takes a job babysitting for a professor of a college she hopes to attend. Struggling to entertain the professor’s children Trissy and Jake, along with her own little brother Phillip, Drea takes them on a hike, unaware that mysterious alien critters have crash-landed and started devouring every living thing they encounter.

Bobby Miller, award winner for his feature film The Cleanse (2016), has been the director of Critters Attack! (2019), working with a script by Happy Death Day (2017)’s writer Scott Lobdell, and based on the original characters and events depicted in Critters (1986).

Critters Attack! (2019) is part of a plan of SyFy to bring back some classics of horror in the 1980s in the form of new sequels. And this is the first of the films that will see the light. It is scheduled to come out on disc and digital viewing on July 23, 2019. You can check out its first trailer here:
